furnish Your Grace with detailed information in reference to all proposed undertakings when forwarding the estimates for 1860 now in course of preparation. I only allude to the subject here to explain that in consequence of this postponement and accumulation of public works the Surveyor General's Estimate for next year which has just been submitted to me by the Colonial Secretary in a minute which I enclose exceeds £40,000; so that not only will the entire revenues of 1860 be expended, but the balance at present in hand will be drawn upon for £20,000.
The remainder of the "Catarice" (£25,000) would probably be sufficient to complete the Jail and water supply; but these are both works of such magnitude that they must necessarily extend over several years, and it is proposed therefore to take for next year only £10,000 on account of these services, being about as
